Elizabeth Morgan Artist

elizabeth morgan artist

Elizabeth was born, raised, and educated next to the Rocky Mountains, bordering the beautiful prairies in Calgary, Alberta. Throughout her school years she was very active in all of the art courses offered and majored in Commercial Art in High School.

In the early ‘80s she and her young family lived in Medicine Hat, Alberta, where while raising two preschoolers she was able to steal little precious time to devote to her art. Working in pen and ink as well as water colors, she did manage to produce some special pieces and show in the local gallery. Many of her early pieces are now in private collections in southern Alberta as well as in the Medicine Hat City Hall.

For many years after, painting was on the back burner, but always on her mind and in her heart. Her love of painting never wavered, it continued into her adult life while raising three sons and working in various fields. Once her children had reached young adulthood, her creative urges and love could no longer be denied or ignored. She made a commitment to herself to follow her heart, gave herself permission to take one day a week to go to a studio to pursue her love of painting.

Liz is self taught, going to adult education programs at the Alberta College of Art, studio classes with various international artists and teachers, and managed to attend intensive workshops abroad and locally. In the past year she has expanded her talents to include working with acrylics and has found that there is a flexibility and instant gratification with the acrylic paints that excites and inspires her to broaden her style.

Liz’s inspiration comes from within, her appreciation and love of animals, the amazing creativity of nature and the great outdoors. Much of her vision has been inspired by living in the beautiful Alberta countryside, just a short drive from the magnificent foothills and majestic Kananaskis country.

She sees the strength of a horse bracing against the elements, the beauty in a withered rose hip and a discarded twisted old boot. She has the ability to lead you into her painting, capturing the essence and depth of emotion she has transferred onto the canvas.

Liz currently volunteers at the Children’s Hospital, where she hopes to be able to inspire and teach the magic of art to the young patients.

Her art is presently being shown in galleries in Calgary.
